for David

David, this music is for you.

The lyrics.  The guitars.  The passion for creativity and making music with your friends.

Your kind of thing.

I have always loved the part when the band reaches a crescendo and the tempo changes
and the girl belts out, "Oh, won't you stay?"

Makes me smile with anticipation and familiarity.  And lights up a thousand images
of when we were all young and beautiful and full of potential.

The other day I heard this song and thought of you and wished I could say these words directly to you along with the next line, "please, please...say you will."

I cried.  Because I miss you and I love you and I want you to know how much your friendship
has always meant to me.  And always will.

Because I believe that if you had a choice, you would stay.
And you would keep us laughing and honest with your many gifts.

I think of the cars we cruised in, the double-dates to Canandaigua Lake with our girlfriends,
the countless laughs we traded and the easy friendship we shared.

The inside jokes, hitchhiking together, sharing a pack of cigarettes, hanging with the guys at the newsroom.  Working together at the lumber yard.

Countless conversations and shared experiences.  Countless happy moments I will always cherish.

Golden times, David, and I only hope you received as much as you gave.
I want to thank you my friend, and wish you eternal peace and love.

So let's keep on truckin'.  Same as the old days.
You are ever beside me.

Same as the many sunny days we shared.

I'll drive.

You play the tunes.

Please, say you will.

You are ever in our hearts.

Amen
